About Feng Shou Kung Fu

Feng Shou kung fu is the perfect complement to Tai Chi.
Feng Shou means 'hand of the wind'. It is a soft style of kung fu using inner power or 'Qi'. Originating in Central China, it combines the best of the Southern styles - solid stances, rapid hand strikes and ward-offs - with the Northern styles' evasive footwork and many kicks. 'Soft' refers to the way the body is kept relaxed, using continuous fast flowing movements, usually circular. It is very suited to females as well as males. Big muscles are a disadvantage, we will train you in agility, tactile awareness and sensitivity.
In class we teach the full art of Feng Shou including:
Chee Soo's Shou Bei Fa form (手臂法) and applications.
Poison hand sets.
Active Mist sets.
Hand, arm and leg ward-offs.
Wrist locks and wrist twists.
Arm locks and arm controls.
Break-outs.
Foot flow patterns.
I fu shou (sticking or pushing hands).
3 star principle.
Evasive footwork: box step, tea cup, clock-face, lotus petal, ten teardrops.
Staff form and applications.
Sabre form and applications.
Qigong to develop energy.

Gradings:
We hold regular gradings for which no additional fees are charged. A grade is a reflection of the standard reached by the student and a reward for hard work. It is not a source of income for the instructor.
Benefits:
Feng shou is a great way to keep fit and agile and will improve your general health as well as bringing self-defence skills, increased confidence and self-esteem. Many students practise mainly for the health and fitness benefits. The current age range of our students is 18 to 70+.
